Coco II-DVL Power Converter for Sony HDV Cameras
The new Coco II-DVL from Bebob Engineering is an updated version of the Coco DVL power converter. A compact & cost-effective method of drawing voltage from Sony NPF970 series batteries to simultaneously operate the camera and profes- sional 12V accessories, Coco II-DVL can be used with popular Sony HDV and Mini DV camcorders includingthe HVR-Z1U/V1U, HDR-FX1/FX7, VX-2000 series, and DSR PD150/170.
The converter simply snaps onto the back of the camera in place of the existing 8.4V NPF battery. Batteries are then attached to the unit’s convenient docking plate. While the original Coco-DVL powered both camera and accessories from a single NPF battery, the Coco II plate has connectors for mounting 2batteries. Coco II transfers 8.4V of power and Info- Lithium data directly to the camera. In addition, it converts 8.4V to 12V from the batteries to run accessories such as a light, on-board LCD monitor, or audio receiver. This arrangement results in both greater power output and a longer running time for on-board equipment.
Coco II’s ingenious design orients the batter- ies at a 90-degree angle. This provides ample space opposite the plate for Coco II’s auxiliary connectors and access to the camera’s viewfinder with minimal interference. Accessories draw 12V from a dimmable twist D-Tap connector, which allows cables to plug in from either an upward or downward position, while maintaining equal polarity. Two Hirose 4-pin connectors deliver 8.4V/12V for the camera’s power supply and to operate wireless audio accessories. (An optional wireless receiver mounting plate is included). Additionally, the Coco II-DVL comes equipped with a DC 12V “Power In” connector for running the camera and accessories off of an external power supply.
